Acute Inpatient Patient Care Technician - PCT CCHT - Dialysis

Functions as part of the Inpatient Services Hemodialysis Health Care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

Provides patient care under direct supervision of Hemodialysis Registered Nurse; Reports and documents all new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN; Sets up and primes equipment as directed for renal replacement therapies; Assures dialysis machine has been set up, tested and found safe for dialysis treatment; Obtains necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; Documents patient treatment information in hospital Electronic Medical System and Acute Care Electronic System; Calculates and enters dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration goal, treatment time, Sodium modeling, and UF modeling; Ensures appropriate safety alarms are enabled; Collects, labels specimens and ensures timely delivery to laboratory; Evaluates intradialytic problems and provides intervention as prescribed; Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion and performs discontinuation documentation; Evaluates patient prior to termination of venous access, obtains hemostasis and applies appropriate dressings; Reviews and complies with Code of Business Conduct; Assists with various projects as assigned

Requirements

High School Diploma; 18 months dialysis experience; CCHT certification; Must obtain CCHT within 18 months of hire; Effective communication skills - both verbal and written; Required to take Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; Ability to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community; Frequent, prolonged periods of standing and ability to bend over; ability to assist in moving machines and equipment up to 200 lbs and lift chemical and water solutions up to 30 lbs up to 5 feet

Nice to have

At least 6 months’ experience in related field (EMT, Surgical Technicians, Army, Phlebotomists, and technicians)
