Acute Inpatient Patient Care Technician - PCT CCHT - Dialysis

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) at Fresenius Medical Care support and collaborate with RNs to provide dialysis treatment to several patients at a time while maintaining the functionality of the clinic. This involves prepping and testing equipment, reviewing treatment sheets, and opening the clinic at 4am for first shift. PCTs have a combination of technical skills and genuine passion needed to develop deep relationships with patients and improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities

Support and collaborate with RNs to provide dialysis treatment to several patients at a time while maintaining the functionality of the clinic; prepare and test equipment; review treatment sheets; open the clinic at 4am for first shift; provide patient care under the direct visual supervision of a Registered Nurse; report and document new and unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the RN; evaluate vascular access for patency; perform vascular access cannulation; obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; initiate renal replacement treatment according to prescribed orders; collect, label specimens and ensure timely delivery to laboratory; monitor patient’s response to dialysis therapy and report unusual findings; discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.

Requirements

High School Diploma required; 1 – 2 years’ related experience; Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Certification (CCHT) certification; prior customer service, healthcare and direct patient care experience
