Acute Inpatient Patient Care Technician - PCT CCHT - Dialysis

This position will primarily float between East Cleveland and Akron. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working independently with little supervision. Dialysis experience is required, along with a CCHT or Bonent certification. PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients in accordance with FMCNA policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

Provides patient care under the supervision of the FMCNA RN for assigned patients in the acute setting; Promotes and assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment; Supports the FMCNA commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) Activities; Promotes and assists in meeting Total Area Productivity goals; Sets up and primes equipment for renal replacement therapies (hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement, peritoneal dialysis) as directed; Welcomes assigned patients and reports any complaints or observations to the FMCNA RN; Evaluates vascular access for patency and reports unusual findings; Obtains pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; Performs vascular access cannulation; Calculates and enters patients' dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, sodium modeling, and UF modeling; Ensures appropriate safety alarms are enabled including narrow venous limits; Records accurate and timely information on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet; Initiates renal replacement treatment according to prescribed orders; Collects, labels specimens and ensures timely delivery to laboratory; Evaluates intradialytic problems and provides intervention; Monitors patient's response to dialysis therapy and reports unusual findings; Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion and performs discontinuation documentation; Evaluates patients' vascular access during treatment and intervenes as needed; Discontinues dialysis treatment according to established procedures; Evaluates patient prior to discharge and obtains hemostasis; Performs and records pre and post dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs; Other duties as required.

Requirements

High School Diploma required or its equivalent; Must have a valid PCT national certification or state specific certification as defined by Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS); All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required; 1 – 2 years' related experience; Dialysis experience required; CCHT or Bonent certification required; Must be comfortable working independently with little supervision; Must be willing to float between East Cleveland and Akron; Requires travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community.
