Responsibilities

Performs diagnostic procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice; May travel to satellite locations to perform diagnostic procedures; Prepares and administers ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA) and/or medications within scope of practice, when applicable; Monitors patient condition and reports changes in status as aligned with department policy; Coordinates patient care with other members of the healthcare team; Positions patient and performs imaging procedures; Analyzes imaging results and takes appropriate action to improve image quality; Enters, transmits, and reports preliminary report of study data to physician staff; Prepares equipment and supplies, selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters, and performs quality control procedures; Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions; Reviews patient history and physician's orders; Educates patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams; Performs advanced diagnostic imaging (3D, myocardial mechanics, mechanical circulatory support devices, transcatheter therapies, etc.), when applicable

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technologist or Diagnostic Medical Sonographer program (associate's degree or higher in a related field acceptable in lieu of the sonography program); One (1) year of adult echocardiography experience in an IAC accredited institution (credentialed new grads within 1 year of graduation accepted in lieu); Appropriate echocardiography credential: RDCS (AE) from ARDMS, RCS from CCI, or ACS from CCI; For pediatric echocardiography: one (1) year of experience imaging congenital heart defects and surgical repairs in an IAC accredited institution (new grads within 1 year of graduation accepted in lieu), and credential (RDCS (PE) from ARDMS or RCCS from CCI) obtained within six (6) months of starting; BLS certification (AHA ECARD, AHA-RQI ECARD, AHA, Red Cross, or Grace period); Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment; Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a stressful environment; Ability to lift/carry patients 35 lbs or greater
