Cardiothoracic Surgery - Full-Time NP/PA

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute's Cardiothoracic Surgery program is seeking a full-time advanced practice provider (APP) to join our OR only surgical APP team. This APP will function independently in the inpatient hospital and operating room setting in collaboration with a supervising physician and other members of a multidisciplinary team. Atrium Health Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute is offering a $90,000 sign-on bonus paid out in four annual installments for OR-only Cardiothoracic surgery positions.

Responsibilities

OR only cardiac and thoracic surgical APP position; Provide a wide range of surgical and medical services including first assisting with cardiothoracic surgeries; Demonstrate independent competency in endoscopic vein and/or arterial harvesting; Position weighted toward thoracic surgery, providing first assistance in open thoracic cases and robotic lung surgery; Coordinate, provide, and assist in providing comprehensive quality patient care to the Cardiology sub-specialty in collaboration with a supervising physician; Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and consultation under direction of the supervising physician; Maintain clinical and professional competency as appropriate to patients; Perform pre-, peri-, and postoperative procedures; Obtain detailed history and physicals on consultations and admissions; Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing; Participate in education and training of APP students, APP Fellows, and on-boarding of new APP hires; Attend and participate in required meetings, education, and development sessions; Weekends, Holidays, and Call required on a rotating schedule

Requirements

More than 3 years experience in cardiothoracic surgery including EVH proficiency; Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program; Must be approved to practice as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North and South Carolina; Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license; BLS and ACLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice; NP: Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice, RN license, national certification, and ACNP/AGACNP certification required; PA: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Cardiothoracic or vascular surgery experience required; Strong knowledge of EMR systems; Proficient endoscopic vein and artery harvesting using the Hemopro system; Ability to work independently and efficiently with strong decision-making skills; Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills; Must be a team player; Demonstrate critical thinking and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced high acuity environment; Ability to perform thorough history and physical assessment; NC Licensure

Nice to have

For PA: Master's Degree preferred; Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred
