Engineering Apprentice I

DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations has been an industry leader in the design and supply of high-voltage, open-air substations, and switchyards since 1965. The Engineering Apprentice shall be a member of a project engineering team responsible for completing assigned tasks within the allotted schedule and cost constraints.

Responsibilities

Applying engineering principles, judgment, and knowledge to develop innovative and cost saving solutions for all DIS-TRAN projects; Producing accurate and organized structural calculations, for customer review, sizing all structural elements for structures to be fabricated as well as providing reactions for foundation design; Producing efficient steel designs that meet all requirements of building codes, customer specifications, and equipment operational requirements; Working with Structural Design Coordinators to efficiently create accurate structural models and thoroughly checking all structural models before calculations are submitted; Reviewing/checking bus design and structural layout for all projects; Producing foundation designs and foundation construction drawings; Following the project throughout the design process, supporting the design team on technical matters, and ensuring design intent is maintained; Helping project management resolve or remove impediments to successful project completion; Knowing and understanding specifications and/or customer requests and communicating any easily missed items to the design team; Proactively scheduling team meetings as necessary; Scheduling check points for drawing and/or drawing package review to ensure quality

Requirements

Must have a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university or equivalent experience; Strong background in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required; Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills are a must; Fully knowledgeable of DIS-TRAN design standards including all applicable building codes and standards relating to physical and structural substation design; Adequate Inventor knowledge to be able to create simple structural models and all drawings that go in the structural calculation books; Thorough knowledge of all electrical clearance requirements; Thorough knowledge of the function and operation of all substation equipment; Working knowledge of all engineering software used by DIS-TRAN
