General Machine Operator - 1st and 2nd Shifts

The General Machine Operator must be willing and capable of learning all aspects of spiral weld pipe manufacturing. The Operator must have the ability to collaborate with the team while possessing the aptitude to collect data and independently make good decisions in real time based on those facts. The Operator must be self-motivated with the leadership skills to inspire others and have the perceptive skills to identify inconsistencies in product and equipment and develop solutions for them. Having an uncompromising commitment to safety is a requirement. Training on specific equipment and processes will be provided.

Responsibilities

Review work orders or take direction from the leadership team to determine required jobs and their run order; Assist the leader in setting up the machine; Verify that all positions have been checked and are ready to start; Ensure the machine keeps running by observing and correcting problems that arise; Monitor quality of alignment and weld process, pipe specifications, cement lining, and application of coating; Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to machinery and equipment; Refer electrical and hydraulic problems to the maintenance department; Develop, recommend, and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality; Adhere to all safety rules and bring safety issues to the attention of department leadership or the safety manager; Follow all work procedures, policies, and protocols; Perform other tasks instructed by the leadership team

Requirements

Willing and capable of learning all aspects of spiral weld pipe manufacturing; Ability to collaborate with a team and make good decisions in real time based on data; Self-motivated with leadership skills to inspire others; Perceptive skills to identify inconsistencies in product and equipment; Uncompromising commitment to safety; Must be able to work 1st or 2nd shift schedule, depending on department; Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations; Must be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Must be able to read, write, and interpret simple documents, instructions, short correspondence, and memos; Must be able to present information in one-on-one and small group situations; Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Must be able to compute ratio and percent and interpret bar graphs; Must be able to read and interpret linear and circumference measurements using tape measures and calipers; Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where limited standardization exists; Must be able to read, interpret, and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; Must be able to operate a computer controlled hydrostatic test stand, including reading console indicators and gauges and using the control console to conduct tests; Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate in English; Must have the willingness to rotate to different positions as requested by manager or team leader; Must regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear; Must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; Must occasionally sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance; Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds; Must have specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
