GL Accountant

A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a GL Accountant to join its finance team and provide hands-on support across general ledger accounting and financial reporting. This is a great opportunity for an accountant who wants to expand their experience in a collaborative, teaching-focused environment with the potential to grow into a long-term role.

The GL Accountant will be responsible for general ledger and financial reporting for assigned units, with significant involvement in month-end close, reconciliations, grant accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis. This position also serves as a key finance resource to operational teams, providing guidance and helping resolve day-to-day accounting questions.

Compensation: Up to $37/hour

Responsibilities

Prepare monthly journal entries, including intercompany activity; Support accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes; Prepare and review monthly financial statements and financial reports; Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations; Review AP and cash receipt activity for proper general ledger coding; Coordinate grant revenue recognition, accruals, billing, and reporting; Analyze financial results and investigate budget variances; Assist with annual budgeting and internal and external audit schedules; Partner with operational teams to resolve accounting and reporting questions; Support capital project tracking and other accounting projects as needed

Requirements

Bachelor's degree with a concentration or significant coursework in Accounting; 3–5+ years of accounting experience with strong general ledger experience; Strong Excel skills; Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations; Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills; Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities; Self-starter who takes initiative and is eager to learn and grow
