Head of Public Relations

Range is creating AI-powered solutions to eliminate financial complexity for members, transforming wealth management through technology and human expertise. The Head of Public Relations reports directly to the CEO, owns how Range is understood in the market, builds the earned media program from the ground up, and builds the crisis and issues function for a fast-moving, SEC-registered firm. This is a builder's seat with founder-level visibility and real consequence. The role is based at Range's Headquarters in McLean, VA or the NYC location, with an in-office schedule Monday through Friday. Base salary range: $200,000 – $300,000, with total compensation including equity exceeding the base range.

Responsibilities

Own Range's external narrative end to end, including the message house, fact base, and boilerplate; Build and personally carry relationships with reporters covering fintech, wealth management, AI, and personal finance, turning them into sustained coverage; Run announcement strategy for funding, product, partnership, and people news, including embargoes, exclusives, and lead time for Compliance review; Stand up the crisis and issues management capability, including severity tiers, named owners, pre-cleared holding statements, escalation paths, and tabletop exercises; Partner with Compliance and Legal to build a communications review standard; Prepare and protect spokespeople through media training, briefing documents, and a deep bench of voices; Own the agency relationship, budget, and performance, and build measurement of share of voice, message pull-through, and coverage quality

Requirements

12+ years in communications or public relations, with meaningful in-house time at a high-growth company; experience in financial services, fintech, or another regulated, high-scrutiny category; A track record of landing sustained tier-one and trade coverage through relationships you built yourself, not only through an agency; Real crisis experience; Working fluency in the regulatory constraints on financial communications (SEC marketing rule, claims substantiation, testimonial and performance rules) and the judgment to find the compliant version of a good story; Credibility with founders and executives, including the standing to push back; A builder's instinct, comfortable as a team of one with agency support in year one; Genuine fluency in AI and technology
