Histotechnologist

Under the direction of laboratory leadership at all times and with some latitude to work independently, responsible for all of the functions of processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist. Performs grossing, embedding, microtomy, special staining and processing of Immunohistochemistry slides. Has responsibility for equipment maintenance, daily quality control, and adherence to all policies. Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. Reports to work at assigned UR Labs location/site.

Responsibilities

Processing tissue samples for histological diagnosis by a pathologist; performing grossing, embedding, microtomy, special staining and processing of Immunohistochemistry slides; equipment maintenance; daily quality control; adherence to all policies; communicating with internal and external clients; participating in training of other technologists; examining slides under a microscope to ensure quality standards; reporting to assigned UR Labs location/site

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Histology or Medical Technology, or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology; 1 year of relevant clinical laboratory experience; equivalent combination of education and experience; Histotechnologist, NYSED Histotechnologist license required upon hire; or Clinical Laboratory Technologist, NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required upon hire

Nice to have

Previous experience as a Histology Technician preferred; Knowledge of anatomy, histology, chemistry preferred
