Immediate Care Technician-Immediate Care Center McHenry Casual

Casual position for the Immediate Care Center at the McHenry clinic, as needed for coverage of vacation and sick leave. The role is a 12-hour shift, one shift every two-week schedule period plus one summer and one winter holiday. Floating to other clinics may be required. The Immediate Care Technician supports physicians (MD) and advanced practice providers (APP) by facilitating patient flow, assisting with patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions, while ensuring efficient patient flow, maintaining clean and safe patient care areas, promoting patient satisfaction, and safeguarding patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Escorts patients to exam rooms, identifies patients with 2 identifiers and prepares them for examination; Obtains accurate vital signs per organization standards; Documents reason for visit and updates allergies, smoking history and pharmacy information; Promptly informs the MD/APP of significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms; Anticipates and sets up equipment or supplies needed for visits; Cleans and prepares exam rooms for next patient; Assists with referrals, transfers and discharge processes; Assists MD/APP with procedures such as electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, procedure trays, specimen collection, CLIA-waived testing, wound care and splinting; Calls in or electronically sends prescriptions as directed by MD/APP; Prepares and stocks exam rooms following disinfecting and sterilizing protocols; Participates in environmental safety rounds; Maintains vaccine/medication inventory; Ensures medication cabinets are locked appropriately; Monitors and maintains equipment and instruments; Assists in ordering supplies and disposes of expired items; Adheres to office opening and closing procedures; Attends staff meetings; Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent; Written proof of meeting candidate eligibility requirements for one of the five eligible certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA); Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or NRCMA) completed within the first six months of employment after up to two test attempts, or EMT certification (Paramedic or Basic, National Registry) or Illinois EMT License, required upon hire; Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification; Completion of pre-employment competency exam; Strong computer skills; Must be a CMA or EMT

Nice to have

Experience with electronic medical record; College degree or interest in health care field; One to two years of ambulatory care experience
