Junior Engineer

We are looking for a curious, motivated Junior Software Engineer to join our team and help build the next generation of SugarAI software products. In this role, you will be a member of a Scrum Team working alongside experienced engineers to develop components for various products, with a focus on writing reliable, maintainable, and well-tested code. You will be encouraged to learn quickly, ask great questions, and develop your skills across the full software development lifecycle. Success in this role means being eager to grow, receptive to feedback, and enthusiastic about collaborating with teammates and contributing to shared goals. This role operates on a hybrid model, with a mix of remote work and in-office collaboration at our Craiova location, specifically, working in-office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

Embrace an AI-assisted approach to software development, using GAI tools across all stages of the SDLC; Learn and adopt team-standard GAI workflows and tools; Produce clean, readable code that follows team standards and best practices; Implement well-defined features or sub-components under the guidance of senior engineers; Write unit tests to verify functionality and support code quality; Identify and fix bugs prior to feature delivery; Participate in code reviews, both receiving and providing constructive feedback; Participate in scrum ceremonies, deliver on sprint commitments, and communicate progress clearly; Collaborate with teammates and contribute to shared goals

Requirements

Familiarity with or enthusiasm for AI-assisted coding tools (e.g. Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code); 0–2 years of experience with software development; internship, academic projects, or personal projects are welcome; Foundational knowledge of Object Oriented Programming concepts; Basic experience with web programming (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or a backend language); Exposure to version control using Git; Familiarity with unit testing concepts or frameworks; Basic understanding of RESTful APIs; Exposure to SQL or relational database concepts; Strong desire to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility over time; Good communication skills and comfort working in a collaborative, cross-functional team

Nice to have

Prior experience with AI-assisted coding tools; Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, sprints, standups); Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or similar), containers, or CI/CD pipelines
