Medical Assistant Advanced Heart Failure Clinic

This position is responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care, as well as, implementing and evaluating direct patient care. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience. Full time (40 hours/week), day shift position, Monday - Friday, in the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic at BUMC Phoenix (1111 E McDowell Rd).

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements and chief complaint; Report patient condition changes to the clinician; Assist providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including phlebotomy, EKGs and ear irrigation; Act as chaperone as needed; Coordinate and manage patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling; Communicate test results to patients; May administer medications per policy or as directed; Provide clerical support and complete medical records, labs, authorizations and billing information; Maintain a clean, functional environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment and exam rooms; Order supplies and stock patient care areas; Handle medication ordering and related tasks; Develop and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers; Complete on-boarding and orientation activities, including simulation training; Process orders from the provider, screen patient messages, and handle prescription refills; Conduct 6 minute walk tests and intakes; Visit heart failure patients regularly

Requirements

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge; Completion of a Banner approved medical assistant training program that also meets state defined regulations; Active Medical Assistant Certification (RMA from AMT, CMA from AAMA, CCMA from NHA, or NCMA from NCCT); BLS certification required upon hire; Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software; Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion

Nice to have

Experienced MA preferred; Cardiology experience beneficial; Experience with office medical procedures and treatments; Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software; Additional related education and/or experience
