MRI Technologist

The MRI Technologist I perform procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanner, post processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient; Properly identifies patients (using two patient identifiers) and assists them while explaining procedures; Interviews patients for medical history and correlates test results and laboratory data with the exam; Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning until completion of dictated results; Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols; Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed; Performs basic patient care functions and initiates life support measures when necessary; Assists physicians/PA during invasive procedures while practicing sterile technique; Practices radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members; Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer; Operates radiology computer system, including entering orders and charging procedures/supplies; Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for staff and patients

Requirements

Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology; Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required; MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire; CPR certification required; Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies; Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation
