Operations Automation Specialist

As an Operations Automation Specialist, you will personally resolve provider inquiries — and then build the tools that make resolving them one-by-one unnecessary. Lantern is the specialty care platform connecting people with the best care when they need it most.

Responsibilities

Work a live queue of provider claims inquiries (status, payment amount, denial and rejection questions, aged-claim batches) through to accurate resolution; Audit individual claims across systems to confirm they were submitted, validated, priced, and paid correctly; Escalate genuine pricing or appeals determinations and document learnings so patterns can be automated; Query claims, pricing, and provider data using SQL to characterize inquiry volume, root causes, and cost to serve; Separate inquiries caused by real payment problems from those caused by provider lack of visibility; Design and build AI-assisted workflows that triage inquiries, retrieve claim and contract facts, validate payments, and draft provider-ready responses; Build in verification and test against real ticket volume; Work root causes of fixable upstream issues such as deferred claims, ingestion errors, and notification gaps; Contribute to provider self-service so fewer questions reach the company

Requirements

Communicate clearly and confidently with providers and internal stakeholders, including by phone and in plain terms; Working understanding of the business and financial side of how claims and payments move (or the ability to build it quickly); Genuine desire to expand SQL skills and to use Python and AI tools, including agentic coding tools like Claude Code; Careful thinking about correctness, asking how one would know if something were wrong and building the check; Comfortable working in ambiguity with thin documentation and systems that don't always agree; Willingness to start by doing the resolution work themselves

Nice to have

Hands-on SQL and/or Python experience; Fluency with modern AI tools, including agentic coding tools like Claude Code, with something built to show for it; A year or more of work experience, especially involving real conversations with customers, providers or clients; Background or coursework in process improvement; Business, finance, economics, or business-intelligence academic background; Exposure to revenue cycle, claims, payer operations, or provider billing; Experience in a support, service, or operations function
