PA-Vascular Surgery-2

Under the medical direction of the MD Chair of Vascular surgery as well as the Executive Director of APCs, the PA will evaluate, treat and manage patients with vascular/surgical conditions. The nature and scope of practice of the Physician Assistant in Vascular Surgery is to assess, diagnose and treat health problems of patients across the continuum of care, in collaboration with the Attending Vascular Surgeons. Physician Assistants in the Department of Vascular Surgery will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the role of physician extenders under the direction of the supervising physician.

Responsibilities

Evaluate, treat and manage patients with vascular/surgical conditions; Assess, diagnose and treat health problems of patients across the continuum of care in collaboration with Attending Vascular Surgeons; Participate in comprehensive care of patients as physician extender under direction of supervising physician; Obtain comprehensive history from patients and present new patients to attending physician; Oversee and participate in preparation of patients scheduled for surgery including ordering and obtaining radiology and laboratory studies; Perform physical examinations, prescribe medications, and perform procedures including dressing changes, wound care, venipuncture, arterial blood gases, tube removal and changes, suture placement/removal; Participate in postoperative care of Vascular Surgery patients including rounding, writing orders, wound care, discharge orders and planning; First or second assist in surgeries; Write postoperative orders; Obtain, review and interpret radiology and laboratory studies; Daily documentation of physical examination findings and care plan in patient's hospital chart

Requirements

ACNP - Adult Nurse Practitioner; Licensed independent practitioner credentialed through the Medical Staff Services Office; PA - Physician Assistant license required; ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) (Including courses offered through SSH); Physician Assistant - Board of Registration of Physician Assistants (Massachusetts)
