Painter - Coating and Lining

The Painter (interior linings and coatings experience a must) is responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance of paint machines. The Painter will operate the equipment according to the specific manufacturing standards to meet customer specifications. The Painter must be able to read and understand work orders. They must follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing duties.

Responsibilities

Set-up, operation and maintenance of paint machines; Operate equipment according to the specific manufacturing standards to meet customer specifications; Read and understand work orders; Follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing duties; Prepare spray guns and nozzles required by paint type; Select the correct spray gun system for the material being applied; Select paint according to company requirements and match colors of paint following specified color charts; Verify paint consistency using a viscosity meter; Operate lifting and moving devices; Set up portable equipment such as ventilators, exhaust units, ladders, and scaffolding; Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers or finish coatings; Monitor painting operations to identify flaws such as blisters and streaks; Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment; Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner; Maintain a clean workspace and follow tooling requirements; Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Repair Manager, Repair Supervisor or Team Leader

Requirements

Interior linings and coatings experience a must; Proficient in preparing spray guns and nozzles required by paint type; Able to select the correct spray gun system for the material being applied; Selects paint according to company requirements, matches colors of paint following specified color charts, and verifies paint consistency using a viscosity meter; Operates lifting and moving devices in order to move equipment or materials; Sets up portable equipment such as ventilators, exhaust units, ladders, and scaffolding; Ability to spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers or finish coatings; Monitors painting operations in order to identify flaws such as blisters and streaks; Able to disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment; Disposes of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner; Maintain a clean workspace and follow tooling requirements; High School diploma or GED; Ability to read and comprehend work orders; Dependable, meets standards of punctuality and attendance; Mechanically inclined and willingness to learn different tasks; Complies with all safety rules and procedures; Use of safety equipment including eye safety glasses, work boots and ability to wear a respirator; Ability to perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials for more than 50% of the workday; Ability to lift 50 pounds safely and drag blast hose over full length of the railcar; Work around heavy moving equipment with intermittent exposure to vibration; Visual color discrimination; Near vision; Work outdoors in all weather conditions; Work in elevated heights and confined spaces; Use of respirator as required; Sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time
