Patient Care Tech-General Medicine 13E Full-time Nights

The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

Assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities; Take and record vital signs, weight, height and intake/output; Apply cardiac monitors, obtain EKGs and perform phlebotomy; Collect specimens (urine, stool, blood and sputum); Provide newborn care and perform normal newborn hearing screening; Obtain capillary blood glucose readings; Provide patient hygiene, ambulation, feeding and comfort care; Assist with admission, transfer and discharge processes; Maintain a safe and clean environment and stock supplies; Respond to patient call lights and emergency situations, initiate basic life support; Report observations, document appropriately and promptly notify RN of changes in patient condition; Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement activities and orientation of new staff

Requirements

CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations; CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers); Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes; Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring; High school diploma

Nice to have

One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience; Previous experience in a health care setting with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff; Associate's or Bachelor's degree
