Patient Transport

Patient Transport job at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital - 450 W Highway 22. Part time, 24 hours per week. Schedule: 12p-830p, 1:30p-10p, weekends and holiday requirements. Responsible for transporting patients, equipment, medications, specimens, and supplies; maintaining safe environments; and supporting patient privacy and communications.

Responsibilities

Ensure courteous, timely processing of all requests for transport; Verify patient identity via wristband; Ensure patient is transported with necessary items; Accompany patient at all times; Deliver patient to destination in a timely manner; Introduce oneself and purpose to patient; Offer comfort items; Communicate patient needs to nursing personnel; Maintain a safe environment; Wash hands before and after each patient; Follow isolation procedures; Use correct body mechanics and lifting techniques; Clean soiled equipment; Report safety hazards; Transport documents, supplies, and specimens; Pick up, deliver, and redistribute patient equipment; Maintain departmental logs and documentation; Maintain current CPR certification; Answer phones and greet customers; Protect patient privacy; Maintain communication with supervisor; Inform nursing personnel of delays or cancellations; Provide handover when accepting or transferring patients

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; Strong communications skills; Strong interpersonal skills; CPR Certification; Ability to assist in lifting patients and equipment; Willingness to work with exposures to body fluids, waste, chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases and life threatening diseases; Ability to work weekends, holidays and rotating shifts; Ability to move heavy patients and equipment and to walk and stand for long periods; Resiliency and flexibility to deal with changing situations; Ability to communicate via phone, handheld radio and pager; Ability to work in high stress situations; Ability to respond to all fire and emergency codes; Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age group demographics; Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance
