Pharmacy Technician Trainee - Float Pool

Trains and participates in inventory management, storage, preparation and delivery of medications. Triages phone calls and handles medication requests appropriately, deferring all clinical decisions to a pharmacist for follow up. Effectively communicates with pharmacy colleagues, customers, patients, and all hospital staff. Completes all required training and activities needed for preparation to take and pass the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

Trains and participates in inventory management, storage, preparation and delivery of medications; Triages phone calls and handles medication requests appropriately, deferring all clinical decisions to a pharmacist for follow up; Effectively communicates with pharmacy colleagues, customers, patients, and all hospital staff; Completes all required training and activities for the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam; Prepares for PTCB Certification through the 12-week PTU program, completing didactic, simulation, and experiential training; Utilizes pneumatic tube system and hand delivers patient medications; Documents transfer and tracking of medications; Prepares medication orders, packages medications, and operates automated systems as trained; Maintains patient confidentiality at all times; Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent; equivalent combination of education and experience; be enrolled in the URMC ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP) or become certified through an alternate method within 180 days; PHAR-C - Certified Pharmacy Tech via the PTCB Certification Exam within 180 days
