Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food, beverages, and service. Is knowledgeable about the wine list, wines-by-the-glass, liqueur, liquor, ports and cocktails. Writes order on check or memorizes it. Relays order to kitchen and serves courses from kitchen and service bars. Observes guests to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed. Completes posted sidework and opening/closing duties. Totals bill in a timely manner and accepts payment. Responsible for knowledge of all menu items. Clears and resets counters or tables at conclusion of each course.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; current food handlers card and class 13/12 liquor permits must be on file at all times; physical demands include regularly talking or hearing, frequently standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
