Product Development Consultant

Sagentia Innovation, a division of Science Group plc, is expanding its mechanical engineering team. They are looking for an exceptional, hands-on product developer to join their group of world class employees. The successful candidate will work with clients from start-ups through to global market leaders, applying innovation, flexibility and technical excellence to meet demanding requirements and tight development timescales across the product development lifecycle. This role focuses on the creation and delivery of new product designs to clients across medical, industrial, defence and consumer sectors.

Responsibilities

Work with clients from start-ups through to global market leaders; Use innovation, flexibility and technical excellence to meet customer requirements and tight development timescales; Work across the product development lifecycle; Requirements development and qualification to inform new concept generation activities; Technology validation through early-stage risk reduction prototyping; Detailed product development and ultimately transfer to manufacture; Employ product development skills on one or more projects simultaneously across sectors; Focus on the creation and delivery of new product designs to clients

Requirements

A Degree (2.1 or above), in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design or other relevant engineering discipline plus industry experience; Development experience to include the new products and platforms, ideally gained within a consultancy or commercial environment; CAD design experience (preferably with SolidWorks and/or CREO); Analytical skills ranging from tolerance analysis to employing tools such as FEA and Multiphysics modelling (COMSOL), through to first principles engineering calculations, potentially using tools such as MATLAB and MATHCAD; Enthusiasm to work in a multidisciplinary team across diverse market sectors; Experience of contributing to projects or work packages to tight timescales; Strong interpersonal and communication skills - confident and capable in a client facing role

Nice to have

Project management experience in delivering complex products; Experience of developing products under the regulatory constraints required for medical products; Mechatronic design experience for complex electromechanical products such as robotics; Experience of designing complex plastic parts for moulding; Experience of design for manufacture and assembly
