Rehabilitation Teacher for the Blind III - Oahu (Counseling Section)

This position instructs elderly (55+) consumers who are blind, deaf-blind, or visually impaired, to assist them in achieving personal adjustment and maximum independence in daily living. The Rehabilitation Teacher provides individual or group instruction in various topics such as personal care, home orientation and management, food management and budgeting, child care and development, family relationships and recreational or leisure activities. This position also manages a caseload of blind, blind-deaf, or visually impaired individuals who require instruction in personal and home management skills and techniques. Work activities include assessment of the clients' abilities and needs, development of individualized service plans, and caseload management.

Responsibilities

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree; One (1) year of progressively responsible professional work experience providing direct services to individuals with disabilities; One (1) year of progressively responsible professional work experience providing rehabilitation instruction to blind or visually impaired individuals; At least one (1) year of the specialized experience comparable in difficulty, depth, and scope to the next lower level in State service; Ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; Ability to read and interpret complex written material; Ability to solve complex problems logically and systematically; Substitutions allowed: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education may substitute for General Experience; Master’s degree in teaching the blind may substitute for General Experience and one (1) year of Specialized Experience; Excess Specialized Experience may be substituted for General Experience on a month-for-month basis
