SEIU Patient Care Technician

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients; Collects and records specimens and body fluids; Performs venipuncture for blood samples; Performs EKGs, places electrodes and obtains telemetry readings; Collects patient data and documents it on the appropriate flow sheets; Collects specimens, performs basic tests or sends specimens to the appropriate laboratory per Hospital policies; Attends to patients' environmental needs and offers comfort measures at the direction of the nurse; Participates in Quality Assurance activities as directed by nurse; Orients patient/family to unit and patient room and provides copies of Patients' Bill of Rights as directed by nurse; Performs other duties as assigned by nurse to support unit functioning and patient care delivery

Requirements

High School Diploma; two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, EMT, or Medic/Corps Person, or two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student; or equivalent combination of education and experience
