Senior Design Engineer

Under broad supervision, responsible for a range of moderately complex engineering tasks in new product development projects associated with design proposals, testing, feasibility analysis, mathematical modeling, sample building, manufacturing processes assessment, etc. to develop and implement new methods, designs and products. Writes engineering specifications and interprets/analyses test results. Role typically requires between 3 and 5 years of experience. This Designer is responsible for executing and supporting NPI's, Research of new technologies or products, product design improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and resolving technical challenges in existing products.

Responsibilities

Execute and support NPIs, research of new technologies or products, product design improvements, cost reduction initiatives, and resolving technical challenges in existing products; Support Sustaining Engineering and Innovation teams; Contribute to research, new product development through design, testing, and validation activities; Develop detailed models, specifications, and documentation; Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to deliver robust, high-quality engineering solutions; Perform moderately complex engineering tasks in new product development projects, including design proposals, testing, feasibility analysis, mathematical modeling, sample building, and manufacturing processes assessment; Write engineering specifications and interpret/analyse test results

Requirements

3+ years of experience in executing research-based projects, new design, DoE, design updates, 3D models, drawings, and supporting documentation; Proficiency in 2D drafting and 3D modelling, preferably using SolidWorks; Strong knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing standards; Strong vendor communication and coordination skills; Experience in Root cause Analysis and implementing design control updates for product improvements or post-market activities; Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities; Graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent work experience) with 3-6 years of experience; Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working in global engineering teams; Flexibility in adapting to changing business and project priorities; Ability and willingness to travel locally, nationally, or internationally when required

Design and develop new products, maintain present product designs through Continuous Improvement, VAVE and conduct design-related testing and validation; Contribute to updates of Product Trace Matrices, Risk Analyses, and Usability Engineering documentation; Collaborate with Product Innovation and Product Strategy teams on user evaluations, usability testing, and design validation; Support Design Verification activities, including developing test methods, performing analyses, and reviewing results; Coordinate with external resources such as suppliers, prototype vendors, and material providers; Collaborate cross-functionally with Project Management, Quality, Regulatory, and Testing teams; Solid understanding of mechanical component and assembly design, including material selection, part tolerancing, tolerance stack-up analysis, and mechanical stress analysis; Familiarity with metallic and polymer materials (stainless steel, aluminium, engineered plastics); Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, injection moulding, additive manufacturing, and finishing techniques; Awareness of factors influencing durability and reusability of mechanical or surgical instruments (corrosion, wear, sterilization, thermal cycling); Basic understanding of design verification and validation methodologies, test development, and data analysis; Proficient in Microsoft Office, Project, and other engineering documentation or analysis tools; Ability to manage multiple technical tasks and deliverables in a regulated environment
