Senior Tax Accountant

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant to support our Financial Operations team. Primary Purpose: Provides professional support to the Tax Department in meeting the goals and objectives of Financial Operations.

Responsibilities

Provides professional support to the Tax Department in meeting the goals and objectives of Financial Operations; Responsible for all aspects of the tax compliance processes, including preparation of workpapers, preparing and timely filing returns, including sales and use taxes for Florida and Puerto Rico, income tax withholding related to Puerto Rico service providers, and other state and local filings; Responsible for the accounting and monthly reconciliation of the tax liability accounts for sales and use tax and income tax withholding; Prepares other returns and supporting workpapers as assigned by the Tax Manager, such as those related to Form 990, 990T, 1041s, and 5500s; Assists in the operation/maintenance of the tax filing software ProSystem; Stays abreast of tax law changes in Puerto Rico and Florida; Recommends, creates, and updates policies and procedures as needed; Assists in providing training and conducts meetings throughout the University; Assists in the monthly and fiscal year-end process; Performs other duties as assigned or required

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree; Four (4) years' experience in an Accounting/Tax-related position

Nice to have

Master's Degree in Accounting and/or CPA; Familiarity with fund and/or not-for-profit accounting principles; Knowledgeable of Tax accounting rules and regulations for non-profits; Familiarity with Banner Financial Systems
