Sr Laboratory Specialist

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) is seeking an innovative Senior Laboratory Specialist to join the Target Fabrication Group within the Experimental Division. In this role, the successful candidate will assemble millimeter-scale targets used in experiments conducted at the OMEGA Laser Facility. Key responsibilities include supporting small-scale, complex research projects; organizing research materials and supplies; maintaining equipment and job-related apparatus; and providing guidance to staff on technical problems, procedures, and special projects.

Responsibilities

Assemble millimeter-scale targets used in experiments conducted at the OMEGA Laser Facility; Support small-scale, complex research projects; Organize research materials and supplies; Maintain equipment and job-related apparatus; Provide guidance to staff on technical problems, procedures, and special projects; Assemble millimeter-scale components in a cleanroom environment; Develop and install operating procedures for the laboratory; Develop and modify test methods, select procedures for data collection and handling; Independently operate complex scientific equipment; Design or collaborate in designing sophisticated research equipment; Evaluate performance of research equipment; Coordinate service support, repair of equipment, requisitioning of supplies and research materials, and minor construction; Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of relevant experience required; Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to have

Master's degree and 2 years of relevant experience preferred; PhD preferred; Soldering millimeter-scale components in cleanroom environment preferred; Knowledge of operating and troubleshooting vacuum deposition systems in cleanroom environments preferred; Skilled at operating vacuum leak instrumentation preferred; Knowledge using compressed gas systems preferred
