Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure

Atlan is building the context layer for enterprise AI. The role is a Staff Software Engineer who will work across cloud and Kubernetes platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and observability, and build AI agents that can operate infrastructure. The stack includes AWS/EKS, Kubernetes, OpenTofu, FluxCD, Temporal, VictoriaMetrics, ClickHouse, Grafana, Go, and Rust.

Responsibilities

Design and improve cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, compute, storage, and distributed systems; Identify bottlenecks, failure modes, and operational risks before they become production issues; Improve CI/CD, testing, rollout strategies, and deployment controls; Develop monitoring, alerting, tracing, and operational tooling; Improve performance, reliability, and cloud cost; Design and ship AI agents that use tools and APIs, execute multi-step workflows, troubleshoot issues, or automate operational work; Build evaluation, permissions, guardrails, observability, and failure handling around agents taking real actions; Mentor engineers through architecture reviews, code reviews, technical discussions, and postmortems; Join the on-call rotation, respond to production incidents, and create fixes, runbooks, and automation that reduce future pages

Requirements

Built and shipped AI agents or agentic systems that perform meaningful work, with understanding of tools, state, workflows, evaluation, and guardrails; Strong infrastructure fundamentals, including distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, and production operations; Experience taking infrastructure from relatively early stages to meaningful production scale; Reliability-first approach, including failure modes, blast radius, operational complexity, and recovery; Ability to debug across application, Kubernetes, networking, and cloud layers; Preference for building and automating over manual operation; Experience building platforms other engineers build on (e.g., package registries, artifact stores, CI systems, internal developer platforms); Strong written communication through design docs and reviews

Nice to have

Experience with multi-tenant SaaS; Experience with distributed systems, infrastructure automation, or production-grade AI agents; Experience with agent orchestration, tool use, evaluation, memory/state, or agent reliability
