Transporter-2

Under the direction of the Manager of Patient Transport and Visitor Services, the Patient Transporter will function within the guidelines of South Shore Health’s policies and procedures. The Patient Transporter provides prompt, courteous, customer service to patients, visitors, and co-workers. He/ She works in collaboration with other team members and ancillary departments by providing excellent service. Responsible for safe transport of patients, specimens, and equipment. He/ She is responsible for the safe transport of patients using a wheelchair or stretcher. This may also include the transport of patients with oxygen, IV poles and other equipment. He/ She may also be responsible for carrying out dispatch services and the appropriate documentation of such services when needed.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, courteous customer service to patients, visitors, and co-workers; safely transport patients, specimens, and equipment; transport patients using wheelchair or stretcher; transport patients with oxygen, IV poles and other equipment; carry out dispatch services and appropriate documentation; verify patient identification prior to transport; follow proper hand hygiene; assist with patient transfers using slide boards, gait belts, etc.; monitor patient comfort, O2 and IV lines during transport; report changes or concerns to nursing staff; discharge patients following proper procedures; transport lab specimens, x-ray reports, medical records and equipment; handle gas cylinders and apply oxygen administration devices under nursing supervision; bring code cart in emergencies; communicate clearly with nursing and clinical staff; use required software applications; attend mandatory in-services and complete annual education; comply with policies and privacy/security procedures

Requirements

Must be 16 years or older; ability to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language; ability to move or lift patients and equipment; must be on feet most of the shift; ability to provide high-level customer service in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using active listening and problem solving; ability to remain calm in stressful situations; weekend evening position every Saturday, Sunday and Holiday 3pm to 11:30pm
