Welder

Responsible for the entire sequence of cutting and welding operations for a wide variety of repair and fabrication work. Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products. May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks. Maintains a safe work area and may train apprentices in the trade.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the entire sequence of cutting and welding operations for a wide variety of repair and fabrication work; Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products; May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks; Maintains a safe work area and may train apprentices in the trade; Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills; Performs welded repairs by utilizing air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment; Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld, slag or spatter; Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc using various hand and power tools; Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required; Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner and reports potential hazards

Requirements

High school diploma or GED; Must pass the applicable welding test as prescribed by the company; Must be able to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently; Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision; Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime; Willingness to wear required PPE at all times and always work safely; Ability to understand and follow UTLX operating procedures and policies based on safety and field training; Ability to lift 50 pounds
