Senior Data Engineer

We’re looking for a commercially minded engineer to join a growing team in Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to design, build and maintain scalable data platforms and pipelines that power analytics and AI-driven decision-making for leading UK organisations. Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines using Python and modern data engineering tools; Translate complex business and data challenges into practical engineering solutions; Lead technical scoping and delivery from requirements gathering through to deployment and support; Build and maintain data models, transformation layers and orchestration frameworks; Work closely with clients, presenting technical solutions in a clear and accessible way; Champion data quality, governance and engineering best practices; Mentor junior engineers and help shape a culture of technical excellence; Collaborate with Cloud, MLOps and Analytics teams to deliver end-to-end solutions; Support proposals, demos and client relationship development where needed

Requirements

5+ years' experience in Data Engineering or a similar technical discipline; Strong Python skills with production-level engineering experience; Experience with tools/frameworks such as pandas, Polars, DBT; Strong understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modelling and medallion architecture; Hands-on experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure or GCP; Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect or Dagster; Strong SQL skills and experience with modern warehouse/lakehouse architectures; Familiarity with Git, CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices; Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; Experience in a client-facing or consulting environment (or strong desire to develop this); Ambition to move into team leadership / people management

Nice to have

Experience with PySpark / Databricks; Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka or AWS Kinesis; Knowledge of data governance and quality frameworks
