Acute Pharmacy Technician

The Acute Pharmacy Technician performs medication packaging, distribution, compounding, and record-keeping under pharmacist supervision. Supports customers, maintains a compliant cleanroom, and assists with staff training while providing safe, age-appropriate care. Position based at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center; shift ideally 6:00am-2:30pm or 1:00pm-11:30pm. Position offered through Banner Staffing Services (Registry/Per Diem), which do not have guaranteed hours and no medical benefits package.

Responsibilities

Performs medication packaging, distribution, compounding and record-keeping under pharmacist supervision; supports customers as liaison between customer and pharmacist; prepares compounded intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products and chemotherapeutic agents in compliance with USP regulations; investigates and responds to missing medication requests; identifies medications and supplies for reorder and receives/restocks orders; manages users within automated dispensing technology database and troubleshoots malfunctions; restocks medications to nursing and ancillary areas; compounds non-sterile medication products and repackages bulk medications; maintains a safe, clean and compliant cleanroom and working environment; performs quality control activities and documentation including refrigerator temperatures and equipment maintenance; handles narcotic and controlled substances per regulations; performs sterile IV compounding and labeling using aseptic technique; may educate and train peer Pharmacy Technicians, Technician Externs, Technician Trainees and volunteers

Requirements

Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice; Arizona incumbents must provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire; ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator; strong customer service focus; exceptional communication skills; strong attention to detail; prioritization capabilities; superior problem-solving skills; ability to multi-task; knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing systems; effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts; completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check (employment, criminal and education)
