AirCare - ALS Paramedic - Ground Transport (Wilkes Base)

The ALS Paramedic provides professional care through high-quality assessment, triage/treatment to assess the nature and extent of a patient’s illness/injury and prioritize the needed care. Provides comprehensive care through skillful assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Paramedic must have strong clinical knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients of all ages with a diverse range of medical needs (infants – geriatric) operating specialized medical equipment and utilizing advanced skills. The Paramedic functions autonomously outside of the hospital environment under standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director as established by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS). The Paramedic must be proficient in advanced practice procedures to provide improved patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Provides professional care through high-quality assessment, triage/treatment to assess the nature and extent of a patient’s illness/injury and prioritize needed care; Provides comprehensive care through skillful assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation; Cares for patients of all ages with a diverse range of medical needs operating specialized medical equipment and utilizing advanced skills; Functions autonomously outside of the hospital environment under standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director as established by the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services; Proficient in advanced practice procedures to provide improved patient outcomes; Independently initiates advanced practice procedures such as video laryngoscopy, blind airway insertion device, needle chest decompression, central line placement, intraosseous placement, and initiation/titration of pharmacological agents; Initiates and sets up ventilation equipment; Ensures patient care equipment is in proper working order and all supplies are present; Ensures the ambulance patient care area is clean, restocked, and orderly; Handles equipment challenges and failures without support of internal hospital resources; Obtains necessary signatures and paperwork for each transport; Thoroughly documents medical care and treatments of patients in the EHR

Requirements

High school graduate or GED required; Successful completion of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program required; North Carolina Paramedic certification required; BLS required; ACLS and PALS required to completing orientation; Two (2) years of clinical paramedic experience required, including one (1) year of active field pre-hospital experience required; Advocate Health approved driving course to be completed within 90 days of hire; Valid driver's license and qualify as insurable by Advocate Health insurance carrier requirements for driving AirCare vehicles; Collects data pertinent to healthcare consumer's health; Analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis or issues; Identifies expected outcomes; Develops plan; Implements plan; Evaluates progress; Practices ethically; Delegates care to appropriate healthcare workers; Attains knowledge and competence; Integrates evidence and research into practice; Contributes to quality Paramedic practice; Communicates effectively; Evaluates own practice; Utilizes resources; Participates in committees; Practices in a safe manner; Models mission, vision, values and goals; Supports patient centered care; Independently initiates advanced practice procedures; Initiates and sets up ventilation equipment; Ensures patient care equipment is in working order; Ensures ambulance patient care area is clean and restocked; Handles equipment challenges and failures; Obtains signatures and paperwork for each transport; Documents medical care in EHR; Maintains annual compliance in education
