Backend Engineering Manager

Verve is expanding its central engineering hub in Dublin, and we are looking for a hands-on Backend Engineering Manager to help build and lead one of our core engineering teams. In this role, you will lead a team responsible for developing and scaling Verve’s core ad exchange and ad server functionality.

Responsibilities

Mentor, grow, and develop direct reports, helping them chart career paths; Lead agile team operations to ensure consistent, high-quality, and on-time software deliveries; Drive team growth by actively participating in hiring, interviewing, and performance reviews; Contribute to department-wide engineering initiatives, optimizing processes for both developer experience and business outcomes; Maintain a deep, in-and-out understanding of systems and architecture; Create new product increments, oversee deployments, and proactively monitor system health; Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues alongside your team; Leverage and champion modern development practices, including agentic-assisted coding workflows

Requirements

7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with system-level languages (Java and Go); 3+ years of direct experience managing, leading, and growing a team of engineers; Proven experience with Cloud Computing platforms (GCP, AWS); Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) and containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes); Solid understanding and practical knowledge of agentic-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or similar); Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform) and monitoring/alerting systems (Grafana, ELK); Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field
