Business Process Improvement Consultant

The Business Process Improvement Consultant is at the heart of cross-functional collaboration and partnership within Operations at Yale University. Reporting to the Director of Process Improvement, within the Office of Strategic Initiatives, this role will be instrumental in building Yale's process improvement capabilities and methodologies while supporting Yale's Operations strategic plan and system-wide initiatives. This role analyzes business processes, identifies improvement opportunities, implements sustainable solutions, and drives operational excellence through data-informed decision-making. The position collaborates with faculty, staff, and leadership to improve service delivery, enhance the student and employee experience, increase organizational efficiency, and support institutional strategic goals. The role leverages process improvement methodologies, business analytics, automation technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI) tools to optimize workflows, reduce waste, improve compliance, and advance artificial intelligence approaches. This role will be responsible for implementing and coaching leaders and staff through lean process improvement methodologies to address and solve complex problems and achieve the desired future state. They will assist in maturing Yale's process improvement model and be proactive leaders partnering with project and change managers throughout the project delivery lifecycle.

Responsibilities

Promoting and role modeling Yale's values and leadership behaviors; Engaging and supporting strategic system-wide initiatives; Prompt decision-making and issue resolution; Leading and facilitating root cause problem-solving sessions, rapid improvement workshops, and value stream and detailed process mapping sessions; Utilizing AI tools for process analysis, knowledge management, workflow optimization, and decision support; Developing and iterating standard work for current and future processes; Delivering just-in-time training to staff and project teams on process improvement methodology and tools; Partnering with and guiding external consultants and subject matter experts; Working closely with the Office of Strategic Initiatives' project management and change management teams to achieve desired future state goals and objectives; Documenting, updating, and presenting improvement tools, artifacts, and status reports; Establishing performance metrics to ensure sustainability; Supporting all management levels with process adherence, data analysis, and improvement recommendations; Performing complex data/information gathering and evaluating information quality by considering source, relevancy, and timeliness; Collaborating with team members and clients to drive development of project deliverables and strategies; Researching, aggregating, and analyzing data/information, extracting insights and making recommendations; Developing and presenting comprehensive and complex reports, recommendations, trainings, and presentations to a variety of audiences

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and seven years of experience or equivalent education and experience; Demonstrated experience utilizing AI for process mapping and task mining to create efficiencies; Proven experience in complex project management; Developed analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills; Developed interpersonal, written, communication, presentation, and organizational skills; Proven ability to develop detailed proposals, presentations, and plans
