Cafe Supervisor, Neighbours

Neighbours & Nightingale Cafés are looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on Café Supervisor to support the Café Manager in the day-to-day running of the café, ensuring every guest enjoys a welcoming and memorable experience. The role involves leading by example, motivating and supporting the team, and ensuring the café operates smoothly and efficiently, including service quality, daily operations, stock management, and health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Supervise, motivate, and support the café team to deliver high standards of service; Lead by example, providing friendly, attentive, and professional service to every guest; Coordinate the team during busy service periods; Handle guest complaints professionally, escalating to management when required; Coach and develop team members; Support the induction and training of new team members; Encourage the team to promote and upsell coffee, beverages, pastries, food items, and other café offerings; Ensure cash handling and electronic payment procedures are followed; Support the Café Manager in overseeing daily running of the café, including opening, setup, service, and closing; Allocate duties to team members; Monitor performance throughout each shift; Ensure café areas are clean, organised, well-stocked, and ready for service; Maintain food and beverage quality, presentation, and availability; Conduct regular stock checks and assist with stock ordering, deliveries, and inventory management; Communicate operational updates, guest feedback, and maintenance issues to the Café Manager; Work with other hotel departments; Contribute to café sales, service, operational, and guest satisfaction targets; Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety legislation, hotel policies, and Westminster Council Environmental Health Officer standards; Use Alert65 for compliance monitoring and checklists; Monitor food handling, storage, temperature control, and hygiene; Prevent cross-contamination; Conduct regular checks of equipment and work areas; Oversee daily cleaning and sanitisation schedules; Identify and report hazards, accidents, and equipment faults; Ensure team members follow fire safety and emergency procedures

Requirements

Previous experience in a café, coffee shop, restaurant, or Food & Beverage environment, ideally in a supervisory or team leader role; A genuine passion for coffee, food, and creating memorable guest experiences; A hands-on leader who can motivate, support, and guide a team in a fast-paced environment; Excellent customer service skills, with the confidence to engage with guests and handle feedback professionally; Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and coordinate a team during busy service periods; Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of upselling, stock control, waste reduction, and achieving sales targets; Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety, and safe food handling practices; Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with guests, team members, and other hotel departments; A proactive and positive approach, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards; Flexible and reliable, with the ability to meet the demands of a hotel operation, including weekends and bank holidays when required
