Cardiac Sonographer II

Cardiac sonographers provide professional, safe and compassionate ultrasound imaging care to all patient populations. They are uniquely trained in the advanced understanding of ultrasound physics and instrumentation allowing them to optimize the ultrasound controls for the highest quality image acquisition. The sonographer is able to identify and evaluate the appropriate anatomical and physiological consequences consistent with different disease processes. They need to be able to adapt the routine protocol to a wide range of patients and disease-state variability, making each exam individual and unique. The sonographer manages the initiation of critical value notification to expedite optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Obtain patient history and perform pre-ultrasound procedure assessment; Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients; Perform routine and complex cardiac ultrasound procedures including echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms (treadmill, Dobutamine echo, bicycle ergonometry); Assist physician in acquiring TEE images and perform TEE probe cleaning and disinfecting at the KU location; Perform on-call echocardiographic services under the direction of a cardiologist; Identify and evaluate anatomical and physiological consequences consistent with disease processes; Organize acquired data and communicate critical values to the interpreting physician; Provide peer-to-peer case study feedback and return QI studies in a timely manner; Assist in maintaining efficient patient flow; Complete mandatory educational assignments; Participate in education and training of sonographer students, residents, medical students and fellows; Assess need for LVO contrast and bubble studies, and administer and document IVs, LVO contrast and bubble studies; Assist with equipment log maintenance, make service calls and notify director/manager of issues; Maintain cleanliness of supplies, stock linen and empty laundry daily

Requirements

High School Graduate; 4 years of cardiac ultrasound clinical experience as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer; Performed a minimum of 4000 echocardiograms; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA); Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS); Maintain CME requirements; Ability to train in area of competency; Basic Computer Skills

Nice to have

Graduate of programmatically accredited program in cardiac ultrasound/echocardiography; Graduate of a Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate academic program in Health Science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing); Training or certification in IV and UEA contrast administration
