Compliance Manager & MLRO

Join our client, an iGaming operator launching in Portugal, as its Compliance Manager and MLRO. This hybrid role is based in Portugal and requires a native Portuguese speaker with proven experience in the Portuguese regulated iGaming market and a strong understanding of SRIJ regulations, AML and licensing requirements. You will lead the compliance programme and act as the main contact with regulators to ensure licensing continuity and safe, fair gaming.

Responsibilities

Lead the compliance programme and act as the main contact with regulators to ensure licensing continuity and safe, fair gaming; Develop policies, oversee AML monitoring, KYC onboarding, and training on compliance and Responsible Gaming, while maintaining the Compliance Risk Register and tracking regulatory changes; Own and maintain all compliance policies including AML, Responsible Gaming, KYC, GDPR, Terms and Conditions and Complaints Management; Act as the primary point of contact with the SRIJ on regulatory and technical matters, including regulatory reporting, audits, information requests and change notifications; Oversee the compliance configuration of the gaming platform and its integration with the regulatory reporting infrastructure such as SAFE Server and Data Vault; Manage the AML monitoring framework, including the reporting of suspicious transactions to the relevant Portuguese authorities where applicable; Oversee KYC and customer onboarding procedures and integration with the Portuguese National Self Exclusion Register; Liaise with external auditors and legal advisors and SRIJ inspectors as part of ongoing compliance activities; Deliver compliance and Responsible Gaming training across the business; Maintain the Compliance Risk Register and monitor ongoing regulatory developments and legislative changes

Requirements

Native Portuguese speaker; Mandatory experience in the Portuguese regulated iGaming market; 5 to 8 years in regulatory compliance, including at least 3 years in a Compliance or MLRO role within iGaming or regulated financial services; Knowledge of the Portuguese Remote Gambling Legal Framework Decree Law 66 2015, SRIJ technical regulations, Portuguese AML Legislation Law 83 2017 and GDPR; Prior appointed Compliance Officer, Compliance Manager, MLRO or Head of Compliance experience within a regulated entity; Relevant qualifications such as a Law degree or certifications in Compliance, AML or Audit such as CAMS or ICA; Strong integrity, independence and the confidence to challenge commercial decisions when required by regulation; Established relationships with SRIJ and credibility with the regulator; Experience with the SAFE Docaposte infrastructure and SRIJ reporting systems; Membership of a professional association such as APAJO or equivalent; Experience preparing a SRIJ licensing application from inception through approval; Familiarity with Digitain or other turnkey gaming platforms from a compliance configuration perspective
