Engineering Manager - Accounts Platform

The Accounts team is the platform layer at the centre of Tide's financial infrastructure. It owns the core financial ledger, the single source of truth for every member's money, alongside account opening, regulatory compliance, statements, and account lifecycle management. The EM we hire now will join to lead the full Accounts team through that transition. When the split lands, you will move across to lead the Ledger Team.

Responsibilities

Leading the Accounts team (9 engineers: backend, mobile, web) through the ledger split; Working with the existing team to define the technical seam; Setting the engineering direction for the Ledger Team post-split; Owning system stability and operational reliability (SLOs, observability, on-call practice); Partnering with product, compliance, and internal operations teams; Growing engineers at every level; Aligning with other EMs across Banking on cross-cutting infrastructure decisions

Requirements

Meaningful engineering management experience; Solid backend engineering foundation; Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams across time zones; Proven experience leading technical teams and partnering with product; Fintech or banking domain experience; Strong grasp of high-volume distributed systems (consistency models, fault tolerance, reliability patterns, SLOs/SLAs, observability); Technically fluent, can read code and engage with design decisions; Backend engineering in a strongly-typed language (Java/Spring Boot or similar); Experience with microservices in a cloud-native environment (AWS); Relational database engineering at scale; Event-driven and async systems experience; Distributed systems migrations at scale; Exposure to agentic or AI-integrated systems; Ability to set technical direction and hold others to it; Focus on reliable systems; Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders; Develop engineers at every level
