Financial Accountant

The Financial Accountant will join the Finance team, reporting to the Head of Financial Control & Reporting, and play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting whilst helping drive continuous improvement across the finance function. Based in Hereford, the role involves taking ownership of key financial accounting processes, building strong relationships with external auditors and advisors, and contributing to a strong and effective financial control environment.

Responsibilities

Preparation of annual statutory accounts and supporting disclosures; Ownership of fixed asset accounting and associated reporting; Review and maintenance of balance sheet reconciliations; Support the month-end and year-end close processes; Ensure robust financial controls and compliance with accounting standards; Lead the annual external audit process; Coordinate information requests and act as primary contact for auditors; Support internal audit reviews and recommendations; Complete regulatory and statistical returns including FCA and ONS reporting; Preparation and submission of VAT returns; Support corporation tax compliance and year-end tax reporting; Manage P11D reporting and other employment tax obligations; Provide oversight of payroll processing, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and company policies; Identify and implement process improvements across the finance function; Support enhancements to financial systems, reporting and controls; Contribute to operational efficiency initiatives and finance transformation projects

Requirements

Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or Qualified by Experience (QBE) with substantial relevant experience; Experience preparing statutory financial statements; Experience managing or supporting external audits; Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial controls; Experience with VAT, tax compliance and balance sheet management; Advanced Excel skills; Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills

Experience within financial services, fintech or FCA-regulated environments; Experience of payroll oversight and employment tax compliance; Experience driving process improvements and system developments
