Fitter I

DIS-TRAN Steel, located in Pineville, LA, is looking for a Fitter I to join the team. Fitters will interpret blueprints to tack fit structures including tubular steel transmission poles, latticed transmission towers, substation deadend and support structures and other specialty structures. Fitters must be capable of fitting steel layouts according to specifications. Individuals must be able to perform duties with speed and accuracy in order to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow of products. This position will frequently use calculating skills, by tape measure or other device. This position will use other moving machinery or equipment, including cranes, in order to manipulate steel structures.

Responsibilities

Interpret blueprints to tack fit structures including tubular steel transmission poles, latticed transmission towers, substation deadend and support structures and other specialty structures; Fit steel layouts according to specifications; Perform duties with speed and accuracy; Use calculating skills by tape measure or other device; Use moving machinery or equipment, including cranes, to manipulate steel structures; Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits; Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials, requirements, and task sequences; Plan steel layout according to specifications; Lay out full scale drawings of structures, supports, and related equipment; Move parts safely into position; Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly; Measure and mark steel for manipulation; Assemble fittings according to specifications by welding; Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade; Position, align, and weld parts to form complete structures; Verify conformance of steel to specifications; Examine steel or workpieces to be processed; Cut material using torches and other cutting equipment

Nice to have

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; Welding / fitting certification or prior fitting experience preferred; Certifications or prior experience using moving machinery, such as cranes, preferred
