General Counsel

Stedi is building the first new healthcare clearinghouse in decades. We're looking for a General Counsel to own the questions that arise in this context, turning regulatory uncertainty into a competitive advantage and novel products into defensible, differentiated offerings. The General Counsel will also shape our defensive and offensive legal strategies – not just manage risk, but actively guide Stedi as it defends its interests and advances its positions. In addition, the role covers Stedi’s full legal function, working in close partnership with our Head of Legal on everything from commercial agreements and disputes to compliance, IP, employment, corporate governance, and fundraising.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute the regulatory and legal strategy to deepen Stedi's relationships with payers; Lead competitive and enforcement matters, defending and advancing Stedi’s interests; Build the legal framework for novel data products that operate in complex regulatory areas; Use legal and regulatory expertise to identify growth opportunities, accelerate deals, and remove blockers; Own the full scope of legal for a fast-growing company alongside our Head of Legal; Partner directly with the CEO and board on strategic decisions where legal and regulatory considerations shape the business direction

Requirements

10+ years of relevant experience between law firms and fast-paced in-house roles; Significant in-house experience, including managing litigations and other disputes, ideally while in a senior legal role at a high-growth company; A true generalist who can solve problems across domains; Fast; Commercial and business-oriented; Philosophical alignment with the Stedi Standards; JD and membership in at least one U.S. state bar

Nice to have

Deep healthcare experience is strongly preferred; Lived experience in the regulatory and commercial complexity of healthcare infrastructure, payers, providers, or health tech is ideal; Deep experience in another heavily regulated, high-complexity industry (e.g., financial services, payments, insurance)
