KIPP — the largest nonprofit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools in the nation—has demonstrated, at scale, that all children have the potential to excel academically regardless of race or zip code. KIPP currently serves over 120,000 students in 275 schools nationwide, including Indianapolis. KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth-grade students and has grown to serve 1,500 students across four schools. Of the students that attend KIPP Indy, 98% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 92% are African American or LatinX, 13% receive special education services, and 18% are designated as Multilingual Learners. POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a passionate high school English teacher to lead Advanced Placement (AP) English Language Arts courses. KIPP Indy AP teachers are responsible for delivering effective instruction that prepares students for success on the AP exams and beyond, fostering critical thinking and strong writing skills.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement rigorous AP English lesson plans that align with state standards and College Board guidelines.; Utilize strong pedagogical knowledge to effectively teach rhetorical analysis, argumentation, and synthesis writing.; Regularly assess and track student performance, leveraging data to adjust instruction as needed.; Maintain a positive and focused learning environment that fosters academic and personal growth.; Build strong relationships with students and their families, supporting both academic success and personal development.; Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction and contribute to the AP curriculum.; Provide timely, actionable feedback to students on their writing and analysis skills.; Scaffold instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including multilingual and diverse learners.

Requirements

Valid Indiana teaching license or in the process of applying for reciprocity with a valid out-of-state license (required).; Bachelor’s degree in English or related field (required).; Experience teaching AP English courses (preferred).; Proven success helping students succeed academically, especially in underserved communities (preferred).; Strong knowledge of AP English curriculum and College Board standards (preferred).; Commitment to the KIPP mission and community (required).; Pass a criminal background check (required).; Expertise in teaching writing and analytical reading.; Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.; Cultural competency and the ability to create inclusive learning environments.; Passion for equity and belief in the potential of all students.
