Internal Audit Manager

The Internal Audit Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Internal Audit Function and ensuring effective execution of the Credit Union's audit plan. This role ensures alignment with the strategic direction established by the Director of Internal Audit and translates that direction into effective operational execution by managing audit activities, guiding team performance, and ensuring high-quality, risk-based audit delivery. The Internal Audit Manager will serve as a key leader within the department, providing coaching and development to audit staff, promoting consistency in audit methodologies, and supporting continuous improvement of audit processes, tools, and capabilities. This position plays a critical role in strengthening internal controls, enhancing risk management, and delivering value-added insights that support organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

Accountable for the execution and delivery of the annual audit plan, ensuring audits are completed timely, efficiently, and in alignment with risk-based principles; Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for audit staff, including Supervisor, Senior Auditors, and Auditors; Oversee the end-to-end audit lifecycle, including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up; Monitor and manage audit progress, resource allocation, and competing priorities; Ensure audit engagements meet established standards, regulatory expectations, and internal audit methodologies, including review and approval prior to Director review; Serve as a primary point of contact for business unit management regarding audit activities, findings, and recommendations; Facilitate communication of audit results, ensuring findings are well-defined and include actionable recommendations; Monitor and support the timely resolution of audit findings and corrective actions; Support the Director in Supervisory Committee communications by preparing clear, risk-focused reporting; Identify and escalate emerging risks, delays, or issues impacting delivery of the audit plan; Promote adherence to risk-based auditing principles and professional standards, including the IIA framework; Support talent development through training, mentorship, and ongoing feedback; Participate in workforce planning, including resource allocation, capacity management, and hiring support; Promote and support the use of audit technology, data analytics, and automation; Partner with internal stakeholders to enhance audit tools, reporting capabilities, and overall audit effectiveness; Identify opportunities for process improvement through audit insights; Ensure audits are aligned with the Credit Union's risk profile, organizational objectives, internal policies, and applicable regulatory requirements, including federal and state regulations, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and OFAC; Support coordination with external auditors and regulatory examiners as needed; Support the review and enhancement of audit-related policies and procedures; Support fraud investigations in partnership with Risk Management and/or the People Team; Support special investigations or audits as directed; Support the Director in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities; Ensure that appropriate levels of security and confidentiality are maintained; Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; five (5) years of auditing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, including experience in a financial institution environment; Strong knowledge of Credit Union operations, internal controls, risk management practices, and audit methodologies, including risk-based auditing and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA); Proven ability to lead and develop teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality results; Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization; Experience using audit tools, data analytics, and standard office software; A valid driver's license is required for travel
