Lab Operations Supervisor

As the Lab Ops Supervisor, you will oversee day-to-day operations of our chemistry labs, supervise 1 direct report (lab support technician), directly report to the Senior Director, and work closely with research teams to ensure optimal lab performance. You will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, managing chemical inventory and solvent preparation, enforcing safety protocols, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day operations of chemistry labs; supervise 1 direct report (lab support technician) and delegate tasks/monitor progress; report to Senior Director and work closely with research teams to ensure optimal lab performance; maintain laboratory equipment and ensure upkeep/calibration; manage and track equipment inventory and equipment monitoring; prepare and maintain solvent and reagent stock solutions; maintain accurate chemical inventory including stock levels, expiration dates, labeling, and storage; handle and coordinate disposal of hazardous chemical waste in compliance with EPA, OSHA, and other regulations; manage procurement of lab supplies and chemicals including vendor coordination and purchase orders; enforce lab safety rules, hazardous material handling, and waste disposal practices; develop and update SOPs for lab processes and safety protocols; evaluate laboratory performance and advise on improvements to optimize efficiency; promote teamwork, provide guidance, and help team grow professionally

Requirements

Highly organized and proactive professional with strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills; Able to manage multiple priorities; Work independently; Effectively support laboratory operations and scientific teams; Adaptable; Detail-oriented; Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment; Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in a related scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.); Proven leadership experience in a lab setting; Strong organizational and multitasking skills; Good communication skills for working with your team and researchers; Knowledge of lab safety protocols and equipment handling; Comfortable using lab software and data analysis tools; A commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment; Participation in an on-call rotation for one week per month
