Laboratory Assistant/Technician – Sample Preparation – Overnight role

Full time Night shift position based in Murarrie, Brisbane, QLD. Shift time: Monday – Friday: 8pm to 4am. A 30% loading applies to the overnight shift. An extra 1.5% superannuation paid on top of National standard rate. Reporting to the Section Supervisor, a laboratory technician will be primarily responsible for sample preparation and involved in some analysis and other lab duties.

Responsibilities

Receive and sort soil and water samples, assign tests in accordance with the LIMS database and prepare batch sheets in Microsoft Excel; Weigh samples and transfer subsamples to the appropriate departments in the laboratory; Extract analytes from water/soil samples as directed by the Standard Operating Procedures; Ensure traceability of samples prepared or vialled; Perform quality control tests; Prioritise samples accordingly as per turn around times (urgent samples); Treat quarantine samples in accordance with quarantine procedures as directed by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) approved representative; Discard waste in accordance with safety and environmental considerations; Replenish consumable items (e.g. pipettes, vials, solvents); Perform calibrations of POVAs such as syringes, steppers and solvent dispensers and other lab equipment; Keep the laboratory clean and in order; Undertake other duties as required by the business and directed by management; Act in accordance with the Eurofins Code of Ethics, and all other relevant policies and procedures, as updated from time to time

Requirements

Good understanding of chemistry and mathematics (Year 12); General preference and comfort in fast-paced environments; Strong attention to detail and focus on quality output; Desire to continually learn and improve; An entrepreneurial spirit, with an eagerness to take the next step; Ability to be a hands-on hard worker and a ‘doer’ with a common sense approach; Strategic thinking mindset; Must be currently based in Brisbane; Eligibility to work in Australia/New Zealand with work rights or an appropriate working visa

Nice to have

A degree in a science-related field would be beneficial; Previous lab experience is a benefit
