Maintenance Technician

The Herff Jones Cap and Gown team, based in Arcola IL, is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Facilities Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment in a manufacturing and distribution plant by ensuring all equipment is safe and ready for use.

Responsibilities

Maintaining a safe work environment in a manufacturing and distribution plant by ensuring all equipment is safe and ready for use; Daily PM’s on machines and facilities as scheduled; Machine diagnostic and repair (sewing machines, air compressors, conveyor systems); Facility maintenance includes light fixture repairs, pallet rack repair, etc.; Working with other departments to determine the best solutions to issues presented; Fabrication for small projects to expand current capabilities; Building system infrastructure inspections and repairs as needed

Requirements

Ability to prioritize and organize with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment; Desire and willingness to learn complex machinery; Strong technical problem-solving skills; PLC diagnostics and repair; Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical system failures; Familiarity with CMMS systems; Ability to work with small parts (sewing machine parts); Must be willing and able to be on an "on call" list for the facility security alarm system; Maintain a neat and clean work environment; Must be able to attend both offsite and onsite training; Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed including overtime; Work independently with little supervision; Assist and participate in Six Sigma, Lean or Continuous Improvement projects; Follow LOTO and PPE procedures as required; Assist with other facility needs as they arise; Mechanical/Electrical experience will be considered in place of a degree; Daily activity includes lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting; Daily operation of hand tools including ratcheting wrenches, sockets, etc.; Reading, communication, math; Standing for 8 hours a day or longer; Ability to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs; Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; Physical strength and dexterity to perform essential job functions

Nice to have

Associate’s degree in mechanical or electrical maintenance strongly preferred
