Master Developer Baseband AI

Are you ready to create the future of AI powered 5GA/6G network? Baseband Technology under Ericsson AI and technology foresight department leads technology foresight and development in the core system area of real-time processing (baseband), both for AI and non-AI methods and workloads. This includes AI models in the RAN baseband, accelerated compute technology, the SW toolchain for AI on Ericsson Silicon (EMCA) and other areas vital to the AI mission, such as overseeing field data collection and AI model validation over-the-air, simulators, cloud infrastructure and more. The responsibility area also includes leading technology incubation for future SW-defined baseband platforms, for example using GPU's and various accelerator devices. We are now looking for a Senior Baseband AI Developer to join our global team and drive the next wave of innovation across the full baseband stack — from Physical Layer (L1) to Layer 2 (L2) and scheduler design and optimisation.

Responsibilities

Drive and contribute to the exploration, design and development of AI-enhanced solutions across the baseband domain, including L1/PHY, L2 processing and radio resource scheduling; Identify where AI can create measurable value in baseband functions such as signal processing, link adaptation, resource allocation, traffic management, control optimization, performance prediction and runtime adaptation; Develop, prototype and evaluate algorithms that combine domain knowledge in wireless systems with modern AI/ML methods, including deep learning and data-driven optimization; Work with purpose-built Ericsson RAN compute as well as general compute platforms such as x86/ARM and accelerator-based environments; Collaborate with cross-functional teams in system design, software, architecture, data, silicon and product engineering to bring concepts into deployable solutions; Contribute to technology scouting and innovation activities in AI, baseband architecture, toolchains and future software-defined platforms; Support validation through simulation, offline analysis, lab verification and where relevant over-the-air evaluation; Help shape technical direction, mentor colleagues and contribute to a culture of learning, experimentation and engineering excellence.

Requirements

8+ years of experience in baseband digital processing, with strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas: physical layer, L2 protocol processing, scheduler design, radio resource management or related wireless communication domains; Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python; Solid understanding of 4G/5G radio access technologies and the performance, real-time and implementation constraints of baseband systems; Experience applying AI/ML methods to communication systems, embedded software, optimization problems or performance-critical products; Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX; Strong analytical thinking and the ability to move from problem definition to implementation and validation; MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field; A consistent track record of delivering complex software solutions with high quality; The ability to work effectively in international, agile and multi-site teams; Curiosity, openness to new ideas and a strong drive to learn, innovate and help others grow.

Nice to have

Experience with embedded AI for RAN/baseband; Experience with cloud-based AI/ML workflows and platforms such as AWS; Knowledge of development pipelines and modern software engineering practices, including CI/CD, Git, Gerrit, GitHub, Jenkins and related tooling; Experience with AI compiler stacks and optimization frameworks such as LLVM or MLIR; Experience with accelerator programming and performance optimization, for example CUDA, GPU toolchains or kernel design; Experience translating research ideas into production-oriented software and product impact; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
