Under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) the Nursing Care Assistant is responsible to provide daily services involving basic care for patients, processing physicians' orders, answering the telephone and intercom, performing a variety of clerical duties and clinical tasks as well as other assigned unit duties. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.

Responsibilities

Provide daily services involving basic care for patients; Process physicians' orders; Answer the telephone and intercom; Perform a variety of clerical duties and clinical tasks; Perform other assigned unit duties; Obtain and record vital signs and other measurements; Complete baths, skin care and personal hygiene (ADLs); Assist with feeding activities and record patient intake and output; Assist with patient admissions, transfers and discharges; Transport patients; Coordinate care with other disciplines; Initiate and maintain records and reports; Organize and maintain medical records; Ensure documentation is accurate, thorough and compliant with department and regulatory standards; Perform post-mortem care; Perform urinary catheter care; Assist patients with bedpans and urinals; Empty linen hampers; Follow Code Procedures; Participate in team huddles and unit meetings; Provide best-practice care following hospital standards, policies and procedures

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; Must be willing to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS); Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served; Proficient in using computer and software programs; Uses accurate medical terminology; Adheres strictly to Infection Control Policy, with an emphasis on hand hygiene

Nice to have

Minimum experience preferred: 1 year experience in an acute or long term health care setting; For work-based learning opportunities, employee should have completed the requirements for graduation and provide a letter from their school stating this
