Patient Care Tech-General Medicine 13E Full-time Nights

The Patient Care Technician's primary function is to assist and support the Professional Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse. Shift: Nights. Unit: General Medicine 13E.

Responsibilities

Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge process; Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure; Measure and record intake and output; Apply cardiac monitor/oximetry; Obtain EKG; Obtain capillary blood glucose; Perform phlebotomy; Apply Fetal Monitor equipment on pregnant patients; Collect specimens (urine, stool, blood and sputum); Respond to patient call lights in a timely manner, especially emergency lights; Provide patient hygiene and newborn care; Ambulate patients; Assist with pre- and post-operative care; Apply dressings to Stage I and Stage II skin breakdown; Transport patients, equipment and/or supplies; Respond to emergency situations and initiate basic life support; Report observations, document appropriately and promptly notify RN of any change in patient condition; Maintain a safe and clean environment; Perform duties delegated by the RN; Order supplies and stock appropriate locations; Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement activities and orientation of new staff; Follow established policies, procedures and standards of care

Requirements

CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations; CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers); Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes; Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring; High school diploma required

Nice to have

One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience; Previous experience in a health care setting with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff; Associate's or Bachelor's degree
